Sandy enjoys exciting return meeting at Shenington
19 September 2013
Sandy was delighted to be back out at Shenington after having three weekends off. It would prove to be an eventful but exciting return due to the ever changing weather conditions.
After quickly settling back into testing on the Saturday, Sandy had a strong first heat on Sunday battling through from P21 on the grid to finish a strong 11th position in what was only a short 8 lap heat.
Just before the 2nd heat the rain started to fall heavily with all the teams having to make the change from the dry to the wet set up in only a few tense minutes. Sandy's second heat in the wet conditions went very well with an excellent drive through from P20 on the grid to finish strongly again in 10th.
Sandy started in P6 on the grid for heat 3. After a difficult start, but still firmly in 6th position on lap one, Sandy had to take avoiding action to prevent hitting a number of karts that had spun in front of him at the Bruno's chicane, this resulted in spinning to the side of the track and dropping to last position. In the short 8 lap heat Sandy managed to work back up to finish 21st which gave him a start position of P20 for the final.
It was wets again for the final after three frantic dry to wet set up changes on the grid as the rain threatened. After an excellent start Sandy made up a number of positions by the end of lap one and went on to climb back up to 5th position, all be it briefly, before being pushed wide at Wilkins with 3 laps to go and eventually finishing in 10th position overall.
Sandy......."It was really good to be back out in the kart again this weekend! Taking avoiding action in my third heat probably cost me a top eight starting position for the final, but overall I felt I had good pace and the kart felt fast which is really encouraging for last round of Super One Championship back here in two weeks time. I would like to thank everyone at RL Racing Department and my sponsors."
