Sandy takes the win at Kimbolton (10/11/13)
12 November 2013
Wet conditions greeted everyone at Kimbolton on Saturday. Sandy showed great pace throughout the day, the skies then cleared at close of play and the temperature dropped towards zero overnight giving a very damp and cold track for Sunday morning.
Sunday started well though with Sandy posting the fastest lap during the 3 lap warm up.
Heat one couldn't have gone better, Sandy started on pole for this one and immediately pulled out an advantage over the following karts on lap one and went on to lead from the start to the chequered flag finishing over 3 seconds clear of the chasing pack.
Heat two was to be a start from grid slot 19. He quickly started to work his way through the pack before running slightly wide on turn one dropping the rear wheel onto the water filled kerb leading to a spin when turning into the next corner which dropped him back into last position. A good fight-back saw Sandy work back up to finish 10th setting the fastest lap of the heat on the way.
It was a starting position of P5 for the final, Sandy had a great start seizing the lead when the two karts in front ran wide into turn one. After pulling out a slight gap from kart 66 the battenburg flag was shown after a kart had hit the tyres at the chicane, this bunched all the karts back up until the debris was cleared. On the re-start kart 66 stuck with Sandy and they went on to change position numerous times until Sandy took the lead on the second last lap which he kept to take the chequered flag.
Sandy:"This has been great day's racing which ended with a very close and exciting final. It is so good to be back on the podium. Many thanks to all at RL Racing Department, SGM Distribution, Smartcomm and Cream Racing Engines"
