Sandy extends lead in Super One Championship in difficult conditions at GYG
16 August 2014
Sandy qualified fastest in group and 6th overall giving him P4 on the grid for both heats. A fantastic win in Heat 1 was followed by a healthy 7th place finish in Heat 2. This gave him a starting position of P5 for Final 1.
Sunday would see the weather conditions change from dry and sunny to very changeable with heavy rain showers. In final 1 sandy had a good start slotting into 3rd position before the rain came on, after dropping to 7th Sandy went on to eventually finish 4th after changing positions many times on a very wet and tricky track with slicks on. Final 2 was a repeat of the earlier final as far as the weather was concerned. After an awesome start from P4 sandy immediately took the lead, but the rain returned and the track was transformed yet again becoming very slippy with virtually no grip at all on the slick tyres. A very strong 8th place finish would see sandy collect a very strong 138 points to stay in the lead of the championship.
Sandy: " I am happy with my points haul this weekend after such tricky driving conditions during both finals, I am looking forward to heading to Shenington this weekend. Thanks to RL, Cream Engines, YRDA and my sponsors SGM, Tunnocks, Stirfresh and Smartcomm".
