Sandy heads to USA
June 4th, 2021
Scot Sandy, heads out to the USA this weekend for a one-off race at Virginia International Raceway with Lamborghini.
The British GT champion will make a one-off appearance in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America this weekend (June 5/6) at the Virginia International Raceway.
The 21-year-old from Forfar will drive the No. 9 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, taking the seat of fellow Lamborghini factory driver, Giacomo Altoe. The Italian is competing in this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 in Germany.

For Sandy, personally backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky, it will be a return to racing in the States.
Two years ago he contested the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American Championship racking up a number of race wins, podiums and fastest laps. Sandy only narrowly missed out on the Lamborghini world title after a tie-break having finished tied on points in the World Final.
“It’s great to be back racing in America,” admitted Sandy, who will partner TR3 Racing’s full-season driver, Lebanese racer Ziad Ghandour, in the No. 9 car. “And I’ve got good memories of the 3.27-mile Virginia track. Last time I raced here in 2019, I set the Lamborghini Super Trofeo lap record, fastest race lap and bagged a top three finish,” Sandy, a member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s elite SuperStars programme, continued. “So I’m looking forward to getting back into action the weekend with Ziad and TR3 Racing.” |
